THE ROYAL BABY’S ON NEARLY HERE! And the 1,000-year-old fairy tale continues.
Clarence House tweeted official word early this a.m. that the Duchess of Cambridge is in labor. Katherine Middleton was accompanied to St. Mary’s Hospital by her hubby, Prince William, about 5:45 this morning.
“Things are progressing as normal,” a Palace spokesman says.
Assuming that the wee one arrives healthy, with two eyes, 10 toes and 10 fingers, he or she will instantly wield power on the international stage. Paparazzi will vie for the most adorable shot, the clearest close-up, eventually the most tempestuous tantrum. No luxury will be out of reach, but as a member of the modern monarchy he or she will live “less like Marie Antoinette and more like Madonna’s kids.”
As we await official word on the child’s arrival, we already known that he or she will officially be known as the Prince or Princess of Cambridge, and will be third in line to the throne behind Prince Charles and Prince William.
According to Fox, “the first hint” of the royal’s arrival “will come when a royal aide emerges from the hospital with a signed bulletin carrying the Buckingham Palace letterhead. The bulletin will be given to an official who will be driven to Buckingham Palace, where it will be posted on an easel in public view in front of the building.”
Some observers have speculated that because Kate carried her weight throughout her body that the new arrival would be a girl. And her uncle confessed on tape that that is what the family is wishing for. Will she have Katherine’s good looks and regal bearing? William’s coloring and reticence? We’ll have to wait to find out.
