Whack Wednesday: Nora Ephron Dies (Twice), Oprah Loves Kim & Rod Blagojevich Is Bored

FOLLOWING A PREMATURELY RELEASED EUOLOGY by dear friend Liz Smith, screenwriter Nora Ephron, 71, actually did succumb to cancer, passing away early last evening. In case you are unfamiliar with Ephron’s impressive body of work, you can tune into any basic cable channel this week and gorge yourself on the Meg Ryan romcom marathons that will be playing on a loop in her honor.

The woman is responsible for movie gold like When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail, SilkwoodJulie & Julia. Unfamiliar with her work? Curl up with some ice cream and a cozy pillow, you’ve got some catching up to do.

OH, FOR FUCK’S SAKE. Now that Kim Kardashian has appeared on two episodes of Oprah’s struggling talk show on Winfrey’s OWN network, Winfrey’s apparently been captivated by the porn star with questionable fame credentials. So captivated that the E! network has confirmed Winfrey’s upcoming appearance on Keeping Up With The Kardashians. And after years of shunning celebrities that had become tabloid fodder (most notably Chris Brown and Rihanna) from her former, highly-rated ABC talk show, it leaves us wondering: Will she now make appearances on Kim’s, and Paris’s, and every other idiotic heiress’ shows, instead of focusing on things like her book club, or her school in Africa, or her Next Chapter? Let’s hope not. We thought she had too much dignity to stoop all the way down to Kim’s level (something we’re sure people are saying about Kanye West, too).

DISGRACED AND JAILED FORMER CHICAGO GOVERNOR Rod Blagojevich is “totally bored with prison,” his former lawyer revealed yesterday. To which everyone in Illinois replied, “Yeah, well, we’re totally bored with every single one of our governors being indicted.” Guess that seat he’s got right now isn’t so golden.
