Prince Charming’s Secret Sorrow: He Missed Mum On Wedding Day
BRITAIN’S PRINCE CHARMING SHARES A SECRET SORROW: the Duke of Cambridge missed his mummy the day he betrothed his bride Kate Middleton.
“It’s the one time since she’s died, where I’ve … thought to myself it would be fantastic if she was here, and just how sad really for her, more than anything, not being able to see it,” Prince William reveals to Katie Couric in an interview that airs tonight on ABC.
“I think she … she would have loved the day and I think, hopefully, she’d be very proud of … of us both for the day,” he added. “I’m just very sad that she’s never going to get a chance to meet Kate.”
The Prince, along with his younger brother Harry, appear on The Real Queen By Her Own Royal Family which airs at 9 p.m. Eastern. The rare interviews were granted as the Queen Elizabeth celebrates her 60th year as reigning monarch. And though the princes do talk about the Queen, (“As I learned from growing up, you don’t mess with your grandmother,” reveals William), no doubt we most want the company of the young princes and a glimpse inside Buckingham Palace.
The incandescence Diana died in a car crash in August 1997 when William was just 15 and Harry 12. Britons’ ache over the loss of the Princess was palpable; so too was their sadness for her sons.
Fifteen years later, Harry tells Couric in his interview that it was “hard” not having his mother at the wedding. But he also revealed a romantic side, saying, “I think she had the best seat in the house probably,” he said. “But yeah, she would have loved to be there.”
