THE INCONVENIENT TRUTH ABOUT MENTAL ILLNESS IS that most families don’t recognize its symptoms, don’t want to face its existence, or outright deny it altogether.
It’s much easier to blame someone’s erratic behavior on addictive drugs or neglectful parents or just ‘bad’ kids. And God help the family member who calls it by its name, who by doing so risks embarrassment and shame to the family unschooled or unable to grapple with the implications of "crazy."
