WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? Am I missing something in the Hulk Hogan-Bubba The Love Sponge settlement?
The erstwhile former best friends have kissed and made up — only figuratively speaking, we think — with Hulk settling his case against Bubba in Florida. But it’s the oddly worded statement released by the Love Sponge, aka Todd Alan Clem, that has me raising eyebrows. “I am now convinced that Hulk Hogan was unaware of the presence of the recording device in my bedroom,” Clem said in the statement. “I am convinced [Hulk Hogan] had no knowledge that he was being taped…It is my belief that Hulk is not involved, and has not ever been involved, in trying to release the video, or exploit it, or otherwise gain from the video’s release in any way.”
Okay, that makes amends for Clem’s insinuations that Hogan “could have had something to do with the leak” of the sex tape to GAwker, but what allegations that Clem violated his privacy in the future place — and then planned to profit off the tape?
TMZ reported that at the end of the 30-minute sex tape, Clem was videotaped telling his ex-wife and Hogan sex partner Heather Clem that they could retire on the sale of the sex tape:
“It’s very clear — Bubba was in on it. Moments after the deed is done and Hulk leaves, Bubba says to his wife … “If we ever did want to retire, all we’d have to do is use this footage.”
But did Bubba admit to making the secret recording? We won’t know because terms of the settlement are confidential, even as Hogan’s $100 million legal claims against Heather Clem and Gawker proceed.
Hogan lost a bid for a temporary restraining order to force the Manhattan-based website to take down its clip. “Upon consideration, Plaintiff has failed to show that immediate and irreparable injury, loss or damage will result before Defendants can be heard in opposition,” U.S. District Court Judge James D. Whittemore ruled last week.
The two will face off again Nov. 8 at a hearing on Hogan’s request for an injunction.
I gotta ask: didn’t Hogan just weaken his hand against Gawker?
