Whack Wednesday: Dennis Rodman’s B-Ball Diplomacy, King Of Beer’s Lawsuit & Marissa Mayer’s Hypocrisy
By Miz J
DON’T TRY HEADING OVER TO SNOPES.COM FOR THIS ONE — Dennis Rodman and three Harlem Globetrotters are are visiting North Korea to start up a basketball camp, with the whole thing being recorded for both posterity and HBO.
And just when you think this story can’t get any weirder, stay tuned — this is DENNIS RODMAN we’re talking about here. North Koreans, who follow a very strict dress code that includes military khaki and pretty much nothing else, are already in awe of his unique look, complete with facial piercings, tattoos and wildly colored hair—thankfully, The Worm decided to leave that infamous bridal ensemble at home.
ANHEUSER-BUSCH IS BEING SUED by the beer drinkers of Pennsylvania, California and New Jersey for watering down their beer and overstating its alcohol content. We know, you’re sitting here, reading this and muttering “Tell me something I don’t know” over a vodka tonic. Well, at least that’s what WE’RE doing.
Guess Justin Timberlake isn’t doing such a great job as “creative director” for the King of Beers. The demands include five mil in damages and a corrective ad campaign. Seems like a slap on the wrist to us. We would have demanded a lifetime supply of the beer and a personal concert from Timberlake, who could put that suit and tie to better use shimmying around to his new single instead.
AFTER YAHOO! ANNOUNCED IT WOULD NO LONGER offer its employees the opportunity to work from home, CEO Marissa Mayer was roundly criticized (and rightly so) for saying asinine things about how having a baby was easy for her. The company went into defense mode immediately after the announcement yesterday, saying, “This isn’t a broad industry view on working from home…This is about what is right for Yahoo right now.”
Well, that’s a nice bit of PR claptrap, but Mayer’s actions speak louder than words — especially the ones that allow her to have a nursery IN HER OWN OFFICE AT WORK, and to have a full-time staff to help her raise her children. Seriously, eff you, lady — and your shitty email service, too.
