AS HE AWAKENED IN HIS HOSPITAL BED AFTER LOSING BOTH LEGS in Monday’s Boston Marathon bombing, a groggy Jeff Bauman gestured for a pen and paper, then wrote, “Bag, saw the guy, looked right at me.”
Bauman, 27, was the dazed victim depicted in a graphic Associated Press photograph broadcast worldwide capturing the frenzied horror that followed Monday afternoon’s bombings. His stunned father, also named Jeff, learned of his son’s grisly injuries after seeing the photograph online.
Now Bloomberg reports that Bauman, while hospitalized in at Boston Medical Center’s intensive care unit, gave authorities a description of the man he saw drop a bag near the finish line just minutes before the bomb exploded.
The man wore cap, sunglasses and a black jacket over a hooded sweatshirt — matching the description of Suspect No. 1, believed 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev, killed overnight in a shootout with authorities.
“He woke up under so much drugs, asked for a paper and pen and wrote, ‘bag, saw the guy, looked right at me,’ ” Jeff’s brother Chris told Bloomberg.
“I’ve had many times alone with him,” he added, “And yes, he told me every single detail.”
