‘LET THERE BE VOMIT’

The Show With Vinny: Tyler The Creator Manifests Puke
By Karen Malmquist
TAKING THE WHOLE ”UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL” THING TO new levels, Thursday’s The Show with Vinny starts out with our host greeting us from inside his shower. He wasn’t kidding when he said “This sure as hell ain’t Piers Morgan.”
Iggy Azalea and Tyler, The Creator are on the show this week, and Vinny tells the cameras that he’s been a fan of Iggy, who’s up first, ever since her first single Murda Bizness dropped. I have no idea what he just said, but based on the loud bleeping that just happened, he said a very dirty word.
Iggy, who’s surprisingly quiet and tall, shows up to the house bearing the food of her homeland: Vegimite. She makes Vinny try some on the spot, and he is not exactly a fan. He tells her it’s good, but there is serious pain behind those black, shark-like eyes of his.
While Paola makes the pizza, Vinny and Iggy head to the dining room to chat. He says he normally doesn’t like blondes, but she seems cool. Iggy adds that she knows all about what he likes (Snooki, etc.), and she doesn’t seem to be it: she’s tall, blonde, and pale. An excited Vinny says that he’s pale, too! Pale power!
The two take the interview under the table, where Iggy explains that he got her stage name from her dead dog. While she talks about how she had no idea that it sounds like a porn name, Uncle Nino shows up in time for dinner.
The pizza is ready and it’s time for things to get serious. Nino has everybody put their cash out on the table for a pizza-eating competition. Whoever can eat four of the square slices first gets $120. Iggy is all about this, but Vinny has a plan to take her down. He starts asking her questions, but Iggy knows it’s just a ploy to get her to slow down. Meanwhile, Nino cheats and tries to hide a slice in his napkin. Antonella eventually wins, and Iggy, looking defeated, says that this game is legitimately hard.
It’s time for Iggy to go home, which makes her sad. She goes back under the table to take a selfie with Vinny.
Now it’s time for OFWGKTA (short for ‘Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All’) leader Tyler, the Creator to meet the family. They all meet at an Italian restaurant nearby, because Tyler is deathly allergic to dogs. He once touched a dog, triggering a near-death experience.
Tyler arrives with some of his Odd Future friends, and he introduces himself to everyone. Vinny tells Tyler how to it was to be at the VMA’s when he won Best New Artist, and Tyler blushes and says that he actually fell off the stage right after he won. Poor guy. He adds that six months before that, he was sleeping on the floor at his grandma’s house.
Paola orders everyone dinner to go along with the homemade lasagna she brought to the restaurant. The food arrives, and Tyler asks what veal is. When Vinny and Paola tell him that it’s a baby cow, Tyler feels bad for the animal, adding, “But he had so many things to do!” He eats it anyway.
Vinny asks about his and Odd Future’s show Loiter Squad on Adult Swim. Tyler explains that it’s basically him and the guys yelling on TV. Yep, that’s a pretty accurate description.
Vinny takes Tyler to the bar area “to chat,” but really just asks him to play a prank on his sister Antonella, who’s a huge fan of his. He wants them all to take a group picture together, and for Tyler to pretend to have an asthma attack after giving her a hug, as if she’s got a piece of dog hair on her coat. Tyler is all about this plan.
They head back to the main room for the group picture, and Tyler asks if anyone has dog hair on them. He hugs Antonella for like ten seconds, and then starts wheezing. After a lot of coughing, he doubles over on the floor and coughs so hard that he starts to vomit. Antonella starts freaking out (so does everyone else), and Tyler eventually says that he was just messing with her. While she’s more than slightly disturbed, Tyler gives her a hug and laughs at how startled she was. And now I will never get the image of him vomiting out of my head.
The show returns in two weeks for a super-sized season finale in L.A., where Vinny meets up with the somehow-still-employed Whitney Cummings.
