Bright Lights, Big City

By Jason Wilfong Jason WilfongI

MOVED TO CHICAGO LAST SUMMER, and it has been rough-going since I arrived. I wrapped up a divorce, and I have been laid off twice. But there are things and people in my life that I am thankful for: These are in no particular order:

1. My divorce. People get married hoping to find “the one” and to live happily ever after, but the sad truth is that there are couples who just don’t belong together. It took me a while to realize that we would be better off apart, but I am a much a happier person now.

2. The City of Chicago—I had visited the city a couple of times before moving here, and despite all of its faults, this is one of the greatest places I have ever lived or been. I love to walk downtown and look at all the buildings lit up at night. It's feels like I'm home.

3. My friends—I have only been here a little over a year, and I have an amazing group of friends.

These are the things I'll be thinking about today.
