AS WE ALL KNOW JAY-Z LIVES IN A PERPETUAL EMPIRE STATE OF MIND. And with good reason too: homey’s hanging out with the Prez in the White House, rapping doctored ditties on the campaign trail, and counting his estimated worth of $460 million. And if you factor that all Jay’s success followed after shooting his brother and dealing dope well into his record career, well, it’s enough to give anyone a big head.
But even the reigning king of hip hop needs to respect his bad-ass elders. And who better to put him in his place than the Raging Bull Robert De Niro.
According to the New York Post, the legendary actor put Hova (well, that’s Mr. Hova to me) in his place while the two were partying at Leo DiCaprio’s swanky birthday party in Manhattan last Saturday night.
Seems Sean Carter made a promise to De Niro to record a song for the Tribeca Film Festival. But when De Niro tried connecting with Jay-Z to follow up, the rapper never bothered to call him back. What. The. Fuck. Don’t you know who DeNiro is, man?
Fast forward to DiCaprio’s party at The Darby Downstairs when
Combs Carter popped by De Niro’s table to say hello.
A spy tells the Post
“Bob wasn’t in any mood to make polite conversation. He told Jay that if somebody calls you six times, you call them back. It doesn’t matter who you are, that is just rude.
“When Jay-Z tried to make a joke of it, saying he is terrible on the phone, a source says, “De Niro kept telling him that he thinks he’s the man, but that he was disrespectful.’ Beyoncé came over, but that didn’t calm Bob down. It was the talk of the party. Everyone was saying there’s only one star in New York bigger and badder than Jay-Z, and that’s Robert De Niro. He can be quite scary when he’s angry.”
DeNiro’s people told the paper denied there was friction: “It was a low-key private conversation between two people that was apparently overheard. It was not a heated discussion.”
Neither De Niro nor Carter’s spokespersons would comment on record.
