FOLLOWING A SERIES OF RUMORS THAT THE X FACTOR would not rehire Britney Spears, TMZ reports that Britney has actually chosen not to return for a second season.
The online tab quotes unidentified sources saying that the pop princess is leaving to refocus on her music. Yet a new report by Perez Hilton contradicts TMZ, saying Spears quit when she saw “the writing on the wall.”
The departure leaves two judges’ spots open on the talent show struggling to find an audience. Record producer L.A. Reid previously announced last month that he wasn’t returning to the show. “It was a nice break, it was a nice departure from what I’ve done for the past 20 years, but now I gotta go back to work,” he’s said.
BritBrit is currently in the studio working on her 8th studio album and is already considering going on tour.
“Working hard. Collaborating with some new inspiring producers. Really focused on my music right now,” Britney tweeted to fans of her new album.
Currently, known producers of Brit’s next album include will.i.am, who’s enjoying a bit of chart success for his collaboration with Britney on Scream and Shout. Also joining the party is Hip hop producer Hit-Boy, responsible for the beat of Kanye and Jay-Z’s Niggas in Paris, as well as rising hip hop star Kendrick Lamar’s Backseat Freestyle.
Walking away from a $15 million contract may seem bonkers, but it makes sense when you think of the millions Brit would rake in from her next album and tour.
