YouTube Darling Pomplamoose Lands Hyundai Deal
JACK CONTE AND NATALY DAWN have been serving up easy listening covers of songs by Michael Jackson, Earth, Wind & Fire and Beyonce for a couple years on YouTube to minor acclaim. Their cover of Beyonce's Single Ladies has been watched close to 6 million times, and their rendition of Lady Gaga's Telephone 5.7 million times.
Now the girl with limpid green eyes and her bandmate with the exaggerated facial expressions and have achieved commercial success -- literally.
The Marin County Californians are featured in a series of Hyundai car commercials airing during the holidays. The twosome are doing in the spots the same thing they're beloved (and in some cases, despised) for on the web: performing merry musak and just generally being silly. The TV ads also make it obvious what Pamplamoose's first studio release should be: feel-good holiday classes like those sung in the commercials.
No doubt, Hyundai's hoping that the couple can attract web fans away from their computers and into car showrooms. That's probably not what Jack and Nataly had in mind when wishing for fame and fortune, but how many Justin Biebers can YouTube reastically launch?
