DIVINE HELP FOR TROUBLEMAKERS

Catholic Church to Designate 'Patron Saint of Whistleblowers?'
WHISTLEBLOWERS AND INSUBORDINATES might soon have their own patron saint to beseech in times of trouble.
The Catholic Church's Pope Benedict XVI is expected to beautify Australian native Mother Mary MacKillop at an October 17th service in Rome.
MacKillop, who co-founded the order of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart, was briefly excommunicated in 1871 for "denouncing" priests for abusing children. She was 29 and had a "reputation for insubordination" within the church.
The timing of this revelation seems providential," Father James Martin, author of My Life With the Saints told Religion News Service in allusion to the church's sex abuse scandals. "Maybe there is a reason that Mary MacKillop is walking back onto the international stage at this time."
Personally speaking, I can't wait until the miniature statues and mass cards are produced in her image; I'll be keeping one handy by my bedside.
