HER STRATOSPHERIC CAREER MAY BE HITTING SOME ROUGH WINDS, but Mariah Carey’s love life is smooth sailing.
The certifiable diva and American Idol judge reveals to Barbara Walters that she renews her wedding vows with Nick Cannon every year, most recently last
April atop The City of Lights’ Eiffel Tower.
The revelation — along with pics — come during a primetime interview with the ABC news maven that airs tonight.
“I mean, seriously, Barbara. He’s just as festive as I am. I’m very very festive. And he kind of almost trumps me there,” she says beaming.
Carey, one of the world’s premiere voices, turns gooey when she begins talking about sharing time with her hubby and the couple’s twins, Monroe and Morrocan. “We have fun, it’s just fun. Nick is great with the kids, ” she gushes.
Walters’ also rehashes Carey’s recent brouhaha with Nicki Minaj during American Idol tryouts in Charlotte, N.C. “It felt like an unsafe work en”vironment,” the songstress said. “Anytime anybody’s reeling threats at anybody, you know, it’s not appropriate.”
Mariah also coyly bats her eyes and says “I think we’re in the ballpark, but you know I can’t even talk about that” when Walters asks her about rumors that she’s getting paid $18 million to judge on the Fox talent series.
The interview airs as reports surface that Carey got bum marks for the Australian concern series she performed after Christmas.
“Well, the diva has turned into a downer,” writes Rachel Olding of the Brisbane Times. “But Mariah has become a caricature of herself — and not in a lovable Dolly Parton kind of way … Mariah seemed too absorbed to give us much at all. She hobbled around the stage in heels, escorted by mystery males, touched her hair incessantly and disappeared backstage three times while back-up dancers and singers entertained a yawning crowd …”
No doubt Mariah is just shrugging at the criticism. As she told Walteters about Idol: “Look, I’m doing this show. This is fun, but it’s not my life.”
