OOOPS. REESE WITHERSPOON LET HER ENTITLEMENT SLIP WHEN SHE WAS PULLED OVER WITH HER HUSBAND April 19 in Atlanta after he was spotted weaving on the road.
“Do you know my name?,” the actress challenged Georgia State Trooper First Class J. Pylanda, who was arresting her husband after he failed to ‘walk the line’ properly in a field sobriety test. “You’re about to find out who I am.”
The brazen remarks came after her husband CAA agent Jim Toth was being placed under arrest. Witherspoon exited their rental car and demanded to know what the trooper was doing. Trooper Pylanda ordered the Academy Award winner back into the car, but she protested that as a citizen she was allowed to “stand on American ground.”
Sunday night, the star was mum about the incident at the premier of her new movie Mud. But in a written statement she admitted to being “deeply embarrassed” by her behavior.
“It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened
for my husband, but that was no excuse,” the 37-year-old actress said. “I was disrespectful to
the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but
respect for the police and I am very sorry for my behavior.”
The couple, just married last year, was expected to appear in court Monday but Variety reports their attorney would seek to have their appearance postponed. The couple have a six-month-old son, Tennessee; Witherspoon has two children from a previous marriage to actor Ryan
