TMZ’S BEEN SQUAWKING FOR DAYS about Maria Shriver and friends’ reaction to 60 Minutes interview with Arnold Schwarzenegger on his new book, Total Recall.
“YOU TICK TICK TICK ME OFF!,” shrieks another article in which a source claims Leslie Stahl performed journalistic fellatio on Ahnold.
“The piece is a blow *** for Arnold,” the unnamed source rants. “Lesley Stahl just fawned over him,” and apparently indignant that Maria was never interviewed before meeting with her estranged.
Oh, spare me the theatrics, folks. Maria’s not been above getting or giving interviews to her friends when it’s suited her needs, so it’s hilarious that she’s all of a sudden balking about journalistic ethics. And Stahl’s interview wasn’t as softball as TMZ sources claim: she asked about his love child with Mildred Baena; about sleeping around with other women; pointed out that he kept the secret for 14 years, pointed out that she gave up her career for him, called him a liar. There was nothing soft about it.
Calling the CBS’ interview puffery would be tantamount to, oh, I don’t know — calling TMZ out for constantly trumping Maria’s side of events. It’s clear that some “friend” is surreptitiously doling spin on Maria’s behalf. Okay, so we know that Arnold’s a cheating liar. And Maria absolutely, positively never knew Arnie’s hard rod was the equivalent of “Flat Stanley”.
In the constant flash fires from who said what and who knew what when, what’s being overlooked is that Arnie is groveling: he wants Maria back bad.
Or maybe he just wants to protect his 50 percent of his estate, estimated between $300 to $400 million.
Here’s Arnie calling his tryst with maid Baena a grave error:
“It was the stupidest thing I’ve done in the whole relationship,” he told Stahl. “It was terrible. I inflicted tremendous pain on Maria and unbelievable pain on the kids.” (Those kids are Katherine, 22, Christina, 21, Patrick, 19, and Christopher, 15.)
Here’s Arnold in the book waxing dreamily about his hoped “that Maria and I can come back together as husband and wife.” He calls being married to her for 25 years “the joyride of my life.”
“You can call that denial,” the bodybuilder-turned-actor-turned-governor writes in his book, which hit the stores today. “But it’s the way my mind works. I’m still in love with Maria. And I’m still an optimist. All my life I have focused on the positives. I am optimistic that we will come together again.”
And here’s the kicker: even TMZ reports that Arnold is still hitting up Maria for a reunion. “We’re told … she’s not biting,” the tab reports.
Would Arnold lie just to avoid giving up $150 million? Or does he truly still love Maria? This book isn’t closed yet.
