Here’s Frantic 911 Call After Usher’s Son Nearly Drowned
By Elizabeth Coady
TMZ GOT ITS HOT HANDS ON THE FRANTIC 911 CALL placed by Rena Oden for help after Usher’s 5-year-old Usher Raymond V nearly drowned in the R&B singer’s pool. Oden is breathless as she calls for help for the boy whose arm was reportedly got stuck in a pool drain about 6 p.m. Monday.
“I couldn’t get him. I tried to get him,’ Oden gasps to the 911 operator. Many commentators at TMZ are horrified that the audio’s been released, but the real news is how fast the online tab got a hold of it.
The boy remains hospitalized in Atlanta where Usher’s ex-wife has filed for an emergency custody hearing alleging that the couple’s sons are not properly supervised.
Usher won a bitter legal battle for custody of the two sons he parented with his ex-wife whom he alleged was “incapable of being a proper parent.” Now after Monday’s accident she’s hitting back, saying the boys aren’t being properly supervised because Usher is out of town 85 percent of the time.
Monday’s accident occurs one year after the singer’s 11-year-old stepson Kile Glover was struck by a jet skier on Georgia’s Lake Lanier. He suffered brain damage and died two weeks later after being removed from life support.
