Smashing Bumpkins? Billy Corgan To Launch Wrestling Reality Show

SMASHING PUMPKINS’ LEADER BILLY CORGAN ANNOUNCED ON A RADIO SHOW THIS WEEK THAT HIS wrestling club Resistance Pro will be the subject of a reality TV show.

Corgan, who launched the club last year, told MLW special host Saint Laurent that he has signed with a “big reality show producer.” The new show will offer a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes look at running a wrestling organization.

First Prescription For A Dying President: Brandy & Water

BIG NEWS FROM THE LAND OF LINCOLN: A doctor who rushed to President Abraham Lincoln’s side after he was shot by an assassin’s bullet prescribed brandy and water — stat.

Dr. Charles Leale was sitting 40 feet away from the President inside Ford’s Theater when Lincoln was shot on April 14, 1865 by John Wilkes Booth. “I immediately ran to the Presidents box,” Leale recounts in a newly discovered report uncovered in a National Archives file. “As soon as the door was opened was admitted and introduced to Mrs. Lincoln when she exclaimed several times, ‘O Doctor, do what you can for him, do what you can!’ ” His directive: bring the president brandy and water.

VENUS’ TRANSIT ACROSS THE SUN HAD EARTHLINGS LOOKING SKYWARD YESTERDAY. Earth’s closest neighbor in the solar system won’t make the trek again for another 105 years, by which time most of us we’ll be gone and forgotten. What was spectacle to astronomers actually looked more like a speck passing by the Sun, or as Van Webster of the Los Angeles Astronomical Society described it, “the mole on Cindy Crawford’s face.”

Google Celebrates Birthday Of Drive-In Theaters With Charming ‘Doodle’

IT HAS EVERYTHING YOU THINK OF WHEN YOU IMAGINE TAKING IN A FLICK AT THE DRIVE-IN: vintage cars, the sound of crickets, spooky music and a bucket of popcorn. Today’s Google ‘Doodle’ celebrates the 79th anniversary of the opening of the first drive-in theater.

That milestone occurred June 6, 1933 in Camden, N.J. when Richard Hollingshead Jr. launched the first drive-in theater only three weeks after patenting his idea. The movie: a British comedy called Wives, Beware! The concept spread quickly throughout the U.S. the hook being that parents could load up the kids and see a movie no matter how noisy they were. The price was a mere 25 cents per car and person.

After last season’s cast massacre we’re left with sexy Sonja Morgan, the imperious Countess LuAnn de Lesseps and just plain crazy Ramona Singer. I, for one, will not miss the vain Jill Zarin, clueless Cindy Barshop (whose name I completely forgot and had to look up) or Kelly “gummy bear” Besimon. I will, though, miss Alex and Simon. Those two were on a roll.

WE BEGAN MOURNING LAST WEEK WHEN news first broke that Russian singer Eduard Khil was hospitalized with brain damage after suffering a serious stroke. Today, sad news arrives that Khil, who gained worldwide fame as ‘Mr. Trololo’, died in St. Petersburg at the age of 77.

‘Butcher of Montreal’ Arrested At Berlin Internet Cafe

THE ”BUTCHER OF MONTREAL” WHO made a horrifying pornographic snuff film and then published it on the Internet, was arrested in Berlin this morning.

Luka Rocco Magnotta was detained without a struggle at an Internet cafe on Karl Marx Street in the city’s Neukölln borough after the cafe’s owner recognized him and flagged down a passing police car.
