WORLDS APART

A Tale Of Two Daughters: Francesca Eastwood & Diane Tran
ONE’S THE SPOILED OFFSPRING OF HOLLYWOOD ROYALTY, THE OTHER A 17-YEAR-OLD ABANDONED DAUGHTER OF DIVORCING PARENTS. Together, the two illustrate in spectacular fashion the vagaries of life.
Let’s talk about the rich one first: Francesca Eastwood, 18, the blonde daughter of famed actor and director Clint Eastwood, who has provoked outcry after destroying a $100,000 crocodile Hermès Birkin bag in the name of “art.” Eastwood received death threats after she and boyfriend Tyler Shields chainsawed and then burned the luxury status object. Her reaction, according to TMZ: her critics don’t understand art.
Then there’s Diane Tran, 17, a Texas junior who works two jobs while attending school full-time (taking honors classes and mostly getting As) . The Willis High School student was fined $100 and sentenced to spend a night in jail for missing too many school days by Judge Lanny Moriarty who said he wanted to make an example of her. But the judge didn’t know that Tran’s parents had both moved away and that she was working to help support two siblings. The judge revoked his sentence after a Houston TV station reported on her plight — prompting outrage, a national petition and a fundraising campaign which raised $100,000 for Tran.
And what was her reaction? Refusal: “I want to donate the money to someone who really needs it,” she told ABC News. There’s some other kid out there struggling more … than me.”
There is no morality tale here: both teens succeed despite the demographic chasm that separates them.
Francesca’s desconstructist “art” — sickening to those who labor to earn a few hundred dollars a week — succeeds at mocking the vainglorious appetites of the rich, while Tran proves it’s through suffering that people learn empathy. She’s able to see the other people who need money more desperately than herself. Francesca can only see her reflection looking back at her in the mirror.
I’d tell Tran to take the money and run, but then I’d be corrupting her.

Francesca “succeeded” in passing off her spoiled brat behavior as ‘art’. What bullshit.
Judge failed in his duty to advocate for the powerless. Diane was in a dire situation. Her character makes the judge look small.
She may stun the world again as she may turn down the money donations because she thinks other kids are more needy. The fact that she is considering to turn down this large some of money for someone who works two jobs with low-wages to support her siblings, speaks high volume of her character.
Diane has not given any interviews yet. She is not someone who likes to seek attention and fame as her case has gained worldwide media attention. She deserves our praises and the outpouring love and compassion that people have shown for her. She is exemplary and mature for her age; she is the anti-thesis of the current trend of fame seeking by doing anything to get attention.
