DO YOU BELIEVE IN VAMPIRE LOVE? Not the fake kind that gets spoofed in a screwball comedy that reaps $80 million at the domestic box office? No, we’re talking about the storied love that happens on Twilight movie sets between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
Apparently there’s a lot of skeptics about the so-called affair between the sparkly twee Robert Pattinson and the more complicated Stewart. The two stars who play Edward and Bella have reportedly been entangled in vampire love for nearly as long as Twilight movies have been in theaters. But speculation ramped up that their amour was all a publicity stunt — or “shomance” as Angelina Jolie herself characterized the relationship — after Stewart was photographed making out with director Rupert Sanders. And today, just hours after the Rumors circulated almost immediately after the tabloid scandal that the twosome’s love — and subsequent fallout — was the figment of a diabolical PR agent to boost ticket sales for the fifth and (alleged) final installment in the vampire love triangle.
In July, US Weekly ran the snaps of Stewart in sweet embrace with Sanders, who directed her inSnow White & The Huntsman. She immediately released a schmaltzy apology that was Hollywood insiders labeled a terribly worded mistake. And Pattinson went on a promotional tour for Cosmopolis during which he seemed emotionally removed from Stewart’s alleged deceit. Then came Twilight director Bill Condon’s jaw dropping quote to Entertainment Weekly:
“The fact is, these are actors playing parts, and maybe it’s not such a bad thing that people be reminded of that. Both of these actors gave heart and soul to the Twilight movies, not only during shooting, but also by navigating so graciously the whole life-in-a-fishbowl aspect of the phenomenon. Above all they have always shown great respect for the fans who made these movies such a success. Now it’s time that some of that respect be returned to them.”
Since then the two have reportedly patched things up and were even spotted out last night at the “Ye Rustic Inn in a hipster area of Los Feliz,” TMZ reports. “There was enough of a crowd to ensure someone was going to notice.” And the public sighting comes just one before the two to hit the red carpets to promote Breaking Dawn, Part Two.
“So here’s the question,” TMZ posed to its readers. “Did they honestly repair their relationship and the timing is purely coincidental? Are they really NOT together but doing it for the movie? Or were they always together and the “split” was all PR BS?
The vote as of 6:30pm Central tonight: More than half of the tab’s readers think the vampire love is a sham.
And here I go getting all Examiner on you: what do you think?
